Foreword
By W. H. Walker B.E.M.
It was in 1949 that I was invited to put in for the position of Footwear Manager with Scunthorpe Co-operative Society, and I accepted not knowing what was in the future.
For many years in my Sheffield days I had a
Brigade badge in every jacket, and still have.

You will read that the Vicar of the time, the Revd. J. E. Roberts picked up my badge, and after a few attempts to catch me, made it, and on November 11th 1949 the first meeting took place in the Church Vestry. March 12th 1950 saw the enrolment Sunday. The Church was full and parents brought clothes baskets full of food to feed the 600 visitors, "What a day." You will pick up the story as you read through these pages, and 50 years later the story still goes on. Can I wish them all the best in the years that are ahead, and thank all for the support, I along with all others who worked to carry out the Object of the Brigade and to continue Christ's faithful Soldiers and Servants to our lives end. |
